Nanette Yannuzzi Macias

Omé

Nanette Yannuzzi (she/her), founder of Omé, is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans over 35 years and continues to evolve with clarity and purpose. Born in El Paso, Texas, and now based in Lakewood, Ohio, Yannuzzi has cultivated a rich career in the visual arts that includes sculpture, installation, video performance, and, most recently, drawing, painting, and book arts. A dedicated educator, she spent three decades teaching at Oberlin College, where she influenced generations of artists and was honored with the Excellence in Teaching Award. Her academic background includes a BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art and an MFA from the University of California, San Diego, where she was also named a Helena Rubinstein Fellow at the prestigious Whitney Museum Independent Study Program.

Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and is marked by a deep engagement with pressing cultural and social issues. From women's rights and environmental concerns to poetry and personal histories, Yannuzzi’s art is both intimate and politically resonant. She has participated in notable exhibitions such as Open Engagement at the Queens Museum, The Let Down Reflex at the University of Toronto, and The First 100+ Days at SPACES Gallery in Cleveland. Her artist books and prints are held in respected institutions like the Library of Congress, Yale University, and the New York Public Library. These works reflect her commitment to socially conscious artmaking and her ability to translate complex ideas into powerful visual forms.

In addition to her creative work, Yannuzzi has made significant contributions as a curator, organizing exhibitions that explore global and local issues through collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches. Notable curatorial projects include ENACT, inspired by the 1970 conceptual art project Art in the Mind, and Relief Valve/Subap, which spotlighted Turkish artists addressing environmental themes. Through Omé, Yannuzzi continues her journey as an artist, thinker, and maker, inviting audiences into a dialogue where creativity meets advocacy, and where every piece is rooted in care, critique, and connection.
