Christine Anastasia Mason

Christine Anastasia Mason

Christine Anastasia Mason is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans nearly six decades, rooted in a deep, lifelong engagement with both historical and contemporary art. Working primarily in oil on glass, plexiglass, canvas, foam, and wood panel, she continues to return to her foundational medium of graphite and paper — the language through which her creative voice first emerged.

Christine’s artistic journey began in childhood, where her fascination with drawing, especially the recurring motif of a "running horse," became a personal symbol of freedom and possibility. This early passion evolved into a more expansive artistic vision after encountering Andrew Wyeth’s Christina’s World, a pivotal moment that redefined her understanding of freedom and space in art. From intimate sketchbooks to large-scale theatrical backdrops, her work reflects a life of visual exploration.

She pursued formal study in fine art with a concentration in painting at both the University of Michigan and Kent State University. Today, Christine’s work questions the definitions and boundaries of “Art” itself — where we find it, how we name it, and who gets to make it. Deeply influenced by the teachings of Joseph Beuys and others, she holds true to the belief that “every living being is an artist.”

Graphite, to Christine, is like a first language — intuitive, quiet, and introspective. Oil painting, by contrast, is a bold second language, one that challenges her to translate inner reflection into emotional color and form. For her, painting is not about mastery, but about engaging in an ongoing, often unpredictable relationship with the medium — one filled with struggle, learning, and occasional revelation.

Christine currently lives and works in Northeast Ohio, where she continues her exploration of form, medium, and meaning through the ever-evolving act of making art.
